WATER & SEWER

Overview

The Water Resource Recovery Facility’s hours of operation are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Daily and weekly checks are made of the water metering stations, the elevated storage tanks, and the sewage lift stations. Water samples from different locations are taken weekly to the Lake Michigan filtration plant for bacterial analysis.

The daily work of the Public Utilities Department is divided between the water operations and sewer operations. The Superintendent, Water Resource Recovery Facility Supervisor, Water Supervisor and the Operators all have the ability to handle the responsibility for the entire water and sewer system if the need arises. This demands that all personnel be well trained. Some of their duties are to rebuild and maintain machinery and motors, repair and modify electrical circuits and controls, inspect water and sewer main construction, water meter installation and repair, Water Resource Recovery Facility lab analysis, and maintain buildings and grounds.
